Privacy Policy

The short version

You can use every part of WittyNames without telling us who you are. There is no sign-up, no account and no newsletter box that has to be dismissed. What you type into the generator stays in your browser; it is not sent to us and not stored.

What actually gets recorded

• Server logs. Our server writes down the IP address, browser type, time and page for each request. This is ordinary technical data, used to keep the site up and to notice abuse. Logs rotate and are deleted on a schedule.
• Aggregate analytics. We look at how many people opened a page, how fast it loaded and which category buttons get pressed. The figures are totals, not profiles, and they are not tied to a named person.
• Things you send on purpose. If you use the contact form or suggest a name, we receive what you typed into it — including the e-mail address, if you gave one, so we can reply.

What we use it for

Technical data keeps the site working. Totals tell us which categories are worth expanding and which pages are slow. A message you send is used to answer that message. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not use your data to follow you around other websites.

What we never do

We do not sell, rent or trade user data. We do not pass it to third parties for commercial purposes. It would only be handed over if a competent authority legally required it.

Third-party services

The site uses a traffic-measurement service and a content delivery network, and may show advertising from an outside network. Those providers set their own cookies and collect their own technical data under their own policies, which we do not control. Our Cookie Policy explains what that means in practice.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from that age group. If you are a parent and think your child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Send the request through the contact page. We answer within a reasonable time and do not charge for it.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection and we apply the usual safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, so we will not claim ours cannot be breached.

Changes

We update this page when the site changes technology or adds an embedded service. The version in force is the one you are reading.
